Australian Duathlon Series

Race 2

Lockyer Valley

Queensland

www.triathlonqld.com.au.

The Queensland leg of the Australian Duathlon Series will once again be hosted in the scenic Lockyer Valley. Located west of Brisbane, this area is commonly known as South-East Queensland’s Salad Bowl, but once a year it is also host to the well-established Duathlon held by Triathlon Queensland.

The Lockyer Valley Duathlon Championships will be held at Lake Apex Park, Gatton on Sunday 24th July and will also double up as Race 1 of the Triathlon Queensland State Series. As main supporters of the event, the Lockyer Valley Regional Council has generously provided a $6000 prize purse for the event (which also incorporates the Gatton GRUNT 5km fun run).

This year’s event will see the return of 2010 Gatton Grunt winner and current 5th ranked ITU Duathlon athlete Rafael Baugh to again compete, this time bringing some more mates with him. In last year’s

post-race report, Rafael was noted as saying that he enjoyed the event and was looking forward to seeing the event grow in 2011.

Entries will be opening in early June so please keep posted to our website at;

The Capital Winter Sports Fest

Ronds Terrace

Canberra, ACT

www.triathlonact.com.au

The Capital Winter ACT edition of the Australian Duathlon Series will be held at the well known and used race site of Ronds Terrace in the nation’s capital. The race site is smack bang in the middle of many of the ACT's most popular tourist attractions and sites including the Australian War Memorial, National Library, High Court of Australia, Reconcilliation Place, the National Art Gallery and Questacon.

Canberra is well known for its great roads and the cycle leg will take place on the relatively flat and fast Parkes Way on a road entirely closed to traffic, whilst the runs will be on Sir Robert Menzies Walk, a National Capital Authority initiative providing wide open paths running along the edge of Lake

Burley Griffin.

The race will also double as the ACT Duathlon Championships and the 5km run/ 30km cycle/ 2.5 km run promises to bring out the best the ACT has to offer. An enticer Duathlon event will also be offered over a 1.5km run/ 10km cycle/ 1.5km run for the newcomers to the sport.

The weekend will also include cycling road races, a mountain bike time trial around the base of Mt

Ainslie and fun runs ranging from 1km to 10km.
